Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that is made from any fat or vegetable oil. Due to environmental and energy production concerns, the biodiesel industry is experiencing rapid growth in the United States with significant interest in Mississippi as well.
The 2003 Mississippi Biodiesel Feasibility Study, which was conducted by the Biomass Council, examines the feasibility of a biodiesel industry in the state of Mississippi. In addition to evaluating potential biodiesel markets, the study quantifies the data on restaurant and animal fat availability in Mississippi. Funds for this study were provided by the Mississippi Alternative Energy Enterprise, Mississippi Development Authority – Energy Division, Mississippi Land, Water and Timber Resources Board, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
