Monty Montgomery is in the Energy Division of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA). He has worked on developing energy projects and natural resources for MDA since 2005. His current primary responsibility is concentrated on the utilization of Mississippi’s vast abundance of natural resources and the development of energy projects in the Office of Natural Resources on behalf of the State of Mississippi.

Prior experience includes 3 years with MDA in Jackson as a senior research manager in Business Development. Prior to joining MDA, he served as the Mayor of Weir for twelve years. Mr. Montgomery attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his Executive Certification for a Masters of Science in Economic Development. He is also a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he majored in Business Administration. In addition, he is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute. He also has additional course work in Community Development Leadership from Georgia Tech.

He is a member of the ACCRA Professional Economic Development Research for North America, the International Economic Development Council and the Mississippi Economic Development Council and serves as the Governor’s designee for the U. S. Department of Energy’s Task Force for Unconventional Fuels and for the Appalachian Regional Commission’s Energy Advisory Council. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Biomass Council.
